Dr Hosne Ara Haq, affectionately known as Pinu, is a figure of dedication, generosity, and unwavering commitment to her profession and community. Born in her parental house Mirza Mahal in the historic town of Daulatpur, Khulna, Bangladesh, she hails from a distinguished family. Her father, the late Mirza Ibrahim Hossain, served as a British Deputy Magistrate, and their family home, Mirza Mahal, stands as a testament to their legacy.
Dr Haq’s journey from Daulatpur to London is a testament to her ambition, resilience, and relentless quest for knowledge. She is married to Advocate AFM Nurul Haq, who was a British Civil Servant, and at his retirement he achieved the Imperial Service Award from the Queen of UK. They made their home in London. Despite facing cultural and environmental challenges, her commitment to her medical profession remained steadfast. They both enjoyed singing Bengali songs, stage performance and recitation.
After arriving in the UK through marriage, she completed MRCS and LRCP. Then she worked as a National Health Service (NHS) General Practitioner for 30 years under the Tower Hamlets PCT and Enfield CCG. She also completed DFSRH. She served a diverse community, providing essential healthcare services and contributing to the overall well-being of the population. Her contributions to the NHS, one of the world’s largest public funded health services, underscore her dedication to public health. Before Bengali TV channels were broadcasted in London, she presented health talks on overseas Bangla Radio channel. She then started presenting live health programmes on various Bengali channels in London.
Dr Haq’s medical expertise has benefited countless patients, including members of the Mirza family. As a doctor, she embodies the principles of empathy, compassion, and patient-centred care. Her philanthropic efforts extend to her homeland, Bangladesh, where she frequently visits.
Her ties to Khulna, Barishal and Dhaka are strong, and she has been actively involved in their development. She has notably contributed substantial financial resources to the construction of a mosque and Haq Islam medical centre in Barishal and an Auditorium in a school in Daulatpur and a patient’s registration and waiting room in the Alumni building of Govt. B L College and University of Daulatpur. Furthermore, she founded the Mirza Ibrahim and Begum Hazera Memorial Trust to provide scholarships and other essential resources in Khulna. These establishments serve as essential community pillars, providing spiritual guidance and critical healthcare services to the local populace. At her retirement she received an achievement award from the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) England.
